Understanding Your Vision Correction Options at Northview Eye

Vision correction is oftentimes required to see our clearest. Many people have some kind of refractive error (prescription), which means the eye does not bring a clear image into focus. This blurry image is the cause of blurred vision. We use vision correction with your unique prescription to help your eye form a clear image.

At Northview Eye Associates in Northwest Wisconsin, we have top of the line equipment, which helps us to accurately determine your glasses prescription during the examination. Your input is important too, and so we show you different lens options and ask you to tell us “which is better, 1 or 2”. This process is called a refraction.

Glasses

As stated above, glasses are the most commonly used way to correct imperfect vision. Once your prescription is determined, glasses are made using the highest optical quality plastics available. The better the optical quality of the lenses, the clearer image the glasses are able to make for your eyes.

Contact Lenses

A common alternative or supplement to glasses is contact lenses. There are many different types of contact lenses, which you can read about on our contact lens information page here (insert link). Contact lenses perform in a similar way to glasses by helping your eye to focus a clear image. Contact lenses can be superior to glasses for patients who have a high amount of prescription.

LASIK

LASIK is a procedure that changes the thickness of a patient's cornea (front surface of the eye). When the cornea is changed to eliminate refractive error, the eye is able to focus a clear image without the need of glasses or contact lenses. There are obvious advantages to this, but LASIK is not the right option for every patient. To find out if LASIK is recommended for you, schedule an appointment with one of our doctors in our Spooner, Hayward, or Rice Lake eye clinics.
